  NSU Art Exhibit
NSU student Josh Stelly presents his multifaceted art show, One Love.  The title "One Love" refers to one love of design - furniture, clothing and sculpture.  The exhibit, which utilizes the first and second floor galleries and atrium, showcases Stelly's elegant and dramatic creations in paper, plastic, paint, fabric, furnishings and jewelry.  Stelly, a native of Arnaudville, is mostly self-taught and credits his desire to do his own research and understand how things are consructed.  The exhibit is hled in Orville Hanchey Gallery.  Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.  For more information call (318) 357-5476.

  Summer Reading Program

  Native American Art Exhibit
In keeping with the ongoing Visiting Artist program, the Natchitoches Art Guild will be exhibiting art and artifacts of Native Americans of North America during the month of July.  The exhibition will include items on loan from private collections as well as works for sale by a number of artists who represent the historical significance of the cultural contributions of Native Americans..   4th of July Concert
The stage has been set for a huge patriotic celebration this July 4th at Rebel State Historic Site.  The amphitheatre will be filled with the sounds of patriotic music peformed by Karen and Zach Powell of Pleasant Hill, LA as well as country and gospel music by the Jodonna Hardy Band and other area musicians.  There is no charge for admission into the amphitheatre.  Consessions will be provided.  Bring your lawn chairs, coolers and sunscreen.  The Park is located at 1260 Hwy. 1221 in Marthaville.   Rumble on the Frontier
Fort St. Jean Baptiste State Historic Site will host "Rumble on the Frontier."  Visitors will be introduced to 18th Century French arms and artilery through a variety of discussions and demonstrations culminating in the firing of the Fort's 4-pound garrison gun.  This event will take place weather permitting.  The gun will be fired at 9:30, 11:30, 1:30 and 3:30.  Admission to the Fort is $4 for ages 13-61. The Fort is located at 155 rue Jefferson.  For more information call (888) 677-7853 or (318) 357-3101.

Annual Folk Festival in air-conditioned Prather Coliseum on the campus of NSU.  This year's theme for the Festival is "Traditional Remedies:  Folklife During Times of Adversity".   Triumph Over Tragedy Exhibit
The Orville J. Hanchey Gallery at NSU in conjunction with the Natchitoches-NSU Folk Festival will exhibit Triumph Over Tragedy, the Shreveport Regional Arts Council/Eye-20 Creative Corridor commemoration of the people, places and events of the Great Depression/New Deal Era in North Louisiana.  This photographic exhibition recognizes and remembers the struggles, sacrifices and successes of those who lived during this time of tragedy, tenacity and triumph.  This exhibit perfectly complements the theme of this year's Folk Festival.  The exhibit will be open July 17 from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.  Regular hours are Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m and Fridays 8 a.m.-12 p.m.  For more information visit http://eye20creativecorridor.com/.
